Maggie cashman

I make work that is a contemporary  interpretation of the ancient art of stained glass. My practice is based around the fact that I am partially sighted. To look and look again is second nature to me and I use my skewed vision as a positive feature in my work. I no longer see my unique perspective as a problem instead i use it as an alternative method of viewing the world around me.

The imagery is not specific .. it alludes to fleeting moments and yet it captures those moments permanently ..

I choose to work in glass because of its contradictory nature .. It is time consuming to make and yet can be broken in an instant ... it is valid in both its functional and nonfunctional forms ..
